Intense, Collaborative Problem Solving

Design Thinking is a method for innovation, a human-centered framework, that guides innovators through deeply understanding problems, to collaboratively and iteratively developing ideal solutions. Systems Thinking is a form of Design Thinking applied to improve the performance of systems.

The Innovation Hub provides Design Thinking and Systems Thinking leadership and facilitation for numerous applications at Florida State University and beyond. We offer:

  • Design Thinking (ENT3607) and Systems Thinking (ENT3605) courses for students across disciplines. These courses fulfill important liberal studies requirements and count towards a minor in Innovation.

  • 24-Hour Design Sprints which are co-curricular activities that take place over Friday and Saturday in collaboration with academic units and corporate partners in which students work in teams to develop solutions to real-world problems using Design Thinking.

  • Internal Design Thinking Workshops where we work with FSU departments and administrators to improve FSU internal operations.

  • External Design Thinking Workshops where we work with organizations in the community and external businesses and organizations to help them solve critical public or private issues.

  • Design Thinking and Systems Thinking Training where we work with departments, organizations, and businesses to help them learn and practice the Design Thinking process and mindset within their own organization to develop a culture of innovation.

The Innovation Hub embraced the Design Thinking culture in our own operations. We believe:

  • Today’s complex problems will not be solved by individuals working in isolation

  • There is value in having a variety of unique perspectives and opinions

  • There is no such thing as a bad idea - we can build on each other’s ideas
