Session 1: Design Thinking - What is Academic Innovation

Session 1, Exercise 1 (20 minutes) Academic Innovation at FSU

Take a moment to yourself and consider six - ten examples of academic innovation you have witnessed in your own work, the work of your colleagues, and in general at FSU, note each one on a sticky note to share.

Form groups of three and share your examples with your team adding the sticky notes to the workspace provided.

Feel free to add new sticky notes as thoughts strike you!

After sharing is complete and everyone understands each of the examples of innovation, organize the examples by themes by physically arranging the sticky notes into clusters. Identify each cluster/theme with a descriptive label.

Session 1, Exercise 2 (15 minutes) Academic Innovation Trends

Take a moment to yourself and consider examples of academic innovation you have heard about at other universities, and trends in the industry. Note each one on a sticky note to share.

In a seperate workspace, share your insights with your team.

Once again organize your sticky notes by theme.

Consider both of your work spaces. Decide which areas of Academic Innovation FSU should prioritize as it works to become the most Innovative University. Place a star by the top areas of importance.

Each team share your insights with the entire group. As a group decide which areas of Academic Innovation FSU should prioritize as it works to become the most Innovative University.

Session 2, Exercise 1 (20 minutes) Communication Channels Research

What are other universities doing to raise their profile / increase awareness of their innovative accomplishments?

Take a moment to yourself to individually consider six - ten ways universities are raising awareness of academic innovation. Feel free to use your computer for research.

Form groups of three or four and share your examples with your team adding the sticky notes to the workspace provided.
